International mobility grants

Université Paris-Est (UPE) Community of universities and establishments (COMUE) proposes international mobility grants to its doctoral students. These grants, of which there will be a maximum of fifteen in 2020, are intended to finance, in whole or in part, stays of two months or more exclusively abroad. UPE gives priority to missions for establishments with which it has agreements.
This financing is intended to cover only the cost of the return journey between France and the host country and the doctoral student's accommodation there. It does not cover daily living expenses (food, daily transport) or those related to research activities, which are the responsibility of the units concerned (computer equipment, laboratory equipment, etc.).
Doctoral students enrolled at the latest as 3rd year students are eligible.

The maximum amount is set at €5,000. The grant cannot be combined with a cotutelle grant from UPE or with a grant from another UPE incentive scheme (Labex in particular) or a grant from a UPE member, but can be supplemented by the doctoral student's home or host unit.
Reimbursement of expenses incurred will be made on presentation of proof of expenses made only during 2020.

Practical details

Applications for international mobility grants will include:

  • a web address where the host unit is described (if possible, otherwise any other presentation documents);
  • a scientific project of a maximum of one page, specifying the name of the supervisor for the period envisaged and the planned scientific activity, specifying their contribution to the doctoral student's thesis project;
  • a letter from the foreign supervisor agreeing to host the doctoral student in their unit;
  • a financial project describing the expenses to be covered and the participation (partial or total) requested from UPE; in the case of co-financing, the source will be specified.
